TOUGH LOVE FOR RECYCLED GARDEN FURNITURE

PolyWood - our innovative range of recycled outdoor furniture has been committed to a test that will prove they are as tough as they are kind by subjecting the chairs to 500,000 bottoms!
Poly-Wood’s elegant outdoor garden and dining furniture may be made from recycled plastic bottles and last for thirty years thus saving landfill but their unique construction means they also cut out the need for maintenance as they do not chip, peel, fade or break.
To really put Poly-Wood’s table and chairs to the test, DMMP Limited has teamed up with proprietor Chris Tandy of Poacher’s Restaurant in Thurlaston, Leicestershire, and together they have put four sets of tables and chairs in the restaurant’s outdoor seating area. Over the summer months 1,000 people a week will use the restaurant, with approximately half choosing to sit outside to admire the views.
“With a footfall of 1,000 a week, that’s a lot of people using the tables and chairs,” explains Marcus Palmer. “The chairs will be moved repeatedly and the tables can expect a lot of wear and tear including spillage and hot food plates. As Poacher’s is so popular I am delighted the range will be there and under intense use. Chris and his team will not need to repair, paint or stain the furniture nor move it indoors during winter. The most they will have to do is wipe down the tables, and as the range has a lifespan of 30 years I expect each chair to see approximately half a million bottoms!”
But while DMMP is looking forward to seeing how well his products perform, proprietor Chris is also looking forward to enjoying how the products look and feel. “The furniture is made to look and feel like wood with a grain effect and we have chosen a wood colour so I think some of our customers could be fooled,” explains Chris. “However the main reason for choosing to invest in it was how comfortable it was, as you can’t relax and enjoy your food if you’re not comfy. Enjoying the experience is a top priority here at Poacher’s. Being exceptionally busy we would rather spend the time creating excellent food for our customers than worrying about repairing or replacing outdoor furniture.”
The ‘green’ implications of the range are good for the business as well, explains Chris. “Our customers like us as we cook and serve locally-sourced food so it was natural that we should look to support local businesses such as Poly-Wood. Our customers also appreciate steps we make to become more eco-responsible and already some have been interested that the range is made from recycled drinks bottles and works to reduce landfill.”
As Poacher’s premises are an atmospheric sixteenth century shooting lodge with exposed wooden beams both Marcus and Chris wonder what the original occupants would have made of the faux wood effect of Poly-Wood.
Poly-Wood has been supplied to private homes regionally and throughout the UK and has recently started supplying to residential homes, leisure centres and holiday centres, most notably Butlins. However, supplying Poacher’s is the first local commercial relationship it has entered into.
